DevLog 7: Smithy

Good evening everyone!

Been a little while since my last update. I have a comic convention to prep for this weekend so I've not been as active as I'd have liked on the game, but selling art makes me the money to survive so I can work on the game! :D

So whats new since my last update?

I've created THE SMITHY!

As you may already know I designed a Black Smiths workshop for the games town

And since then I've gone on to design the Smithy himself. He doesn't currently have a name, I've just been calling him Smithy but he's a large man, a nudist except his apron (to be fair when you're dealing with melting hot metal and hammers you probably want your junk covered), and will be a very passionate and welcoming character for the player to deal with. He'll give stuff like quests to find hidden items in the tower he can use to upgrade your equipment, and will also smash open Robo-Geodes when you bring them back to town to get you some goodies!

I also took the time to build the inside of his Black Smith Workshop. Shops in the town will be 3D models but won't be explorable. Instead they'll work like shops in a Dungeon Crawler, so a menu system with a visual background of where you're doing your dealings. This is the current build of the Black Smith Workshop internals;

It's far from done, I want to make use of some particle effects, add a fire to the fireplace, and maybe add some more movement to the scene for the final thing.

That wasn't all that's been worked on in the past few days though!

I've also created some new items for the town, a set of lampposts and quite a gripping and exciting item...a brick.

The brick will be used to give the flat boring path texture a little more clutter to make the town seem less flat. Not exciting I know I know, but it is important to bringing the visuals all together.

ONE FINAL THING

I have begun dreaming up the title screen for the game, inspired by stuff like Zelda: Spirit Tracks I doodled down a quick idea;

Then based on this I couldn't resist putting together an early design for the Tram/Train that'll get the player to the island in the intro/title screen!

Ok that's all I have for now! I hope it's been an interesting read! I'd love to do video logs like you see of games on Youtube (Legend 64 was a huge influence on me making this game!) so maybe I'll give that a try for my next update! :)
