Bubble Frog DX Mobile "Coming Soon™"
Hey all, it's been a hot minute right?!
Bubble Frog DX Has been out for about 7 months now and has enjoyed a nice amount of sales (I honestly never expected it to get past Kickstarter, let alone have independent sales on here and Steam!).
Obviously with the product 'finished' all was done right?
WELL! It WAS until the awesome GreenF0x came along and made GodotBoy, a way to run Gameboy/Color roms inside Godot, by chance the engine I've been learning heavily over the last 7 months!
So what does this mean?
For starters this means when other projects have wrapped up (I've got a few games in the works at once currently as well as client work because I'm a masochist apparently?) I'll be going back to Bubble Frog DX and rebuilding from the ground up the whole front end. The current version uses Bubble Wrap by my awesome friend mooon.bit and served its use well, but with the 3D gallery and stuff I was sticking extra bits onto a system never designed to cope with them which resulted in the install size being larger than it really should be AND the game running poorly on older systems as a result of the 3D elements I was forcing into a poor system never designed for them.
With GodotBoy I can create a much more complex front end with more bells and whistles, have it run natively in Windows, Linux and MacOS, AND it'll run smoother. I've also learnt a lot about mapping and stuff since making the gallery of 1.0 of Bubble Frog DX so I'm hoping to make a much cooler and more fun space to enjoy :D
As I said this is coming "down the line" as I've got other more time sensitive projects in the works right now.
THAT BEING SAID!
GodotBoy being native to Godot and Godot working well with Android (and possibly iOS, still gotta look into that) it means in my free time I've been learning how to play nice with Android aaaaaaand...
BAM! Bubble Frog DX on Mobile!
It is still in the internal testing phase, I wanna fix the controls to feel a bit more reliable, have the size of the 'Game Frog Color' change dynamically to the screen resolution, and maybe add the Bubble Frog DX Animated Intro into the game somehow, but progress is coming along super fast!
So when will it be ready?
Good question! With no good answer! I honestly don't know. I'm juggling a lot of work and home life stuff right now so time has become a rare resource for small side projects (Which this is having to be currently) but I'm hoping it won't take super long. It all highly depends on if bugs begin to show up as testing is expanded to more and more devices.
How much will it cost?
I'm planning for the standard for the mobile market. As the game lacks the features of the fancy desktop version it'll probably be about what? £0.79? (I'm not sure if small apps still charge that or if the price has changed, I'll research before I enter a price).
Will there be any new features?
Nope! Not gonna sugar coat it, this is Bubble Frog DX just like you've played on your PC, Laptop, or Handheld computer, just now on your phone :) If this does well though this does open up the world of 'Gameboy Games on Android' where I may finally explore Bubble Frog 2, but fully intend on releasing Growth's Adventure on there if this all works out :D
Anyway, that's more than enough rambling for now!
Thanks to everyone who's shared, purchased, backed, or just interacted with Bubble Frog in some way, it really does mean the world to me and gives me hope this may one day be more than a hobby but my real job :)
Also before I go, shameless plug, if you enjoy Bubble Frog you can check out my up coming title TetRogue! :D
Anywho, tatty byes people!
