Jam Version 03


Good evening peeps!

Just passed the 48 hour mark on the GMTK Jam 2025 and I'm running ahead of planned so I wanted to release v03 now with plans to release the final build tomorrow!

So what's in v03?

  • HOW TO PLAY PAGE
    A simple How to Play showing what counts as 'action button' and what 'action button' does. It is a 1 button game so simple to understand but I get that people won't instantly know pressing jump again quick drops you so seemed worth while to add!
  • MUTE
    The music is freaking awesome, check out its composer! That said, if you're playing a lot you may get a bit bored of it or just want your own music on, I get you, so there is a mute button now!
  • FULL SCREEN TOGGLE
    I was using the full screen button built into itch.io's interface but with plans to make a downloadable version of the game I felt I should bake one into the game its self!
  • NEW HAZARDS!
    Yup there are 10 different Hazards in the game now with these 3!

    • Sand Worm - not as big as the movies make them out to be!
    • Planet - the second object you can run under
    • Planet with a Cactus under it - Oh no, you're gonna have to jump REALLY high for this on
  • DISTRACTIONS!
    I don't actually remember if these were in v02 BUT THEY SURE ARE IN v03! These happen every 20 seconds, the game will pick a random object to float along the top of the screen trying to drag your eyes away from upcoming hazards. Keep an eye out for something...Bubbly!
  • SOCIAL BUTTONS!
    Not exciting but I need to learn as a developer to promote myself better, so on the Game Over screen are buttons that take you to my homepage and to my Threads (the social media platform I call home).
  • TWEAKING
    • HAZARD SPAWN
      Hazards should spawn a little more often now to avoid the baron planets v02 was spitting out sometimes. With the Quick Drop I realized adding more hazards was totally viable now.
    • SPEED CHANGE
      I felt the planet was speeding up a little too quickly. I've changed it ever so slightly (it starts at a speed of 50 and used to go up by 5 every 2 loops, now it goes up by 3 every 2 loops). This will allow players to get further and higher chance of them seeing the silly thing that happens when you reach 10 loops!

And thats it for today! Isn't as impressive as v02 because most of the big stuff is done. Hell, most of the project is done! The final version's patch notes will probably be quite slim unless I'm struck with madness and add some whole new thing into the game!

Anyway, hope you're all having fun in the GMTK Jam 2025 and I'm super excited to try lots of games when the deadline hits!
