Jam Version Final

It is done! With Less than 24 hours on the clock I've uploaded the final version of Loopy Larry for the GMTK Jam 2025!

So what's the difference between v03 and Final?

  • Tweaked a Hazard

In the game was a Planet with a Cactus under it. The idea was it would be a tricky jump for the player to make. What I overlooked is the game teaches the player to run under the planets (even though they ARE low enough to be jumped over) so people were mistaking this for a glitch throwing up an impossible hazard. Totally my fault. As a result I changed the Hazard to this rocket ship to show it's more intentional (I think it looks better anyway), lowered the height slightly and gave Larry a tiny bit more height in his jump.

I also updated the 'How to Play' page to make clear that holding down jump will cause Larry to jump higher. This should have been there from the beginning but it's amazing how easy it is to forget the player wasn't there while you was developing the game so they don't know all the quirks you included XD
  • Total Re-Work of Nodes
I had totally failed to future proof the project. This meant things were in the wrong node formats and everything was in very messy setups. I went through and reworked everything so now it all behaves properly even if you change the resolution of the game. As a result...
  • Kinda Wide Screen!

Yup the game now expands to wide screen with some nice borders! Fancy a?
  • Windows & Linux Builds!
You can now download the game to play offline on both Windows and Linux! (I'd love to add MacOS too but I don't have a Mac to do that sorry, maybe one day)
  • Steam Deck Build!

The process is a little fiddly but I did make a dedicated Steam Deck build which by default opens in full screen, lacks the full-screen button, and should run perfectly fine using the controls. Which reminds me...
  • Game Pad Support!
Yup, now you can one-button the whole game using gamepad buttons!
  • One Button Everything!
You can now jump right into the game from the Title Screen and Game Over screen by tapping space bar so no need to reach for the mouse!
  • Re-Work of Some Code!
Boring I know but I had to re-write a bunch of Larry's logic because changing nodes and anchor points totally screwed him up so he kept phasing through the planet! That ate up a good few hours today for ZERO visual result for the player XD oh the fun!

So yeah, that's it!

I hope people enjoy the game, if so please rate it as part of GMTK Jam 2025, I don't expect to win but I'd like to think I can rank higher than last year! :D

All the best,

-Timbo
