Update 11
Good evening Liminauts!
So unless you missed it you all know Version 0.1 launched yesterday!
This was a sudden decision as I felt I was delaying releasing anything out of fear of how people would feel about the project so decided to bite the bullet and get SOMETHING out.
People seem to like it so far based on the little bits of feedback I've had which is good, and this raises the question...
Where from here?
Obviously the next goal is version 0.2 so what do I have in my mind for how that'll look?
Ideally it'll contain more Spaces to explore (I'm not putting a set number on the additional spaces as that would result in me making rubbish places just to hit a quota) but most importantly, more of a reason to explore them.
Currently you may notice as you explore pictures appear on the Compound Wall of the spaces you've visited, plus there is a shelf where a few trinkets can be found after dives. I want to expand on this. The plan is to populate the Dreamscape with notes, objects, and other oddities which help to build up the lore and story around the Liminauts, the Compound and what exactly the Dreamscape is.
The technical side of this is pretty simple, all the systems I need are already in place. The harder bit is the writing. I'm far from a writer, there's a reason before game creation I was an illustrator not a comic artist; Narrative isn't my strong point! Luckily due to the nature of Liminaut the narrative isn't at the front. I have a basic skeleton story for the game and the bits you'll find in the game will shine lights on that skeleton but it'll be up to the player to put it together and built the story, and who knows, maybe the story you build will be different from the one I envisioned, and that would be kind of awesome. Deciphering dreams is obtuse and results in a different understanding based on the person you ask after all!
Another thing I'd like to add is 1 ending. The final product I hope to have multiple endings, but for now I'd like to get in a way for a player to say 'I've finished this' rather than expecting them to just explore till they're "done". The first ending will probably be linked to collecting all the location photos, but this isn't a set in stone plan yet.
In the mean time though I do have something planned for...
Version 0.1.5
This isn't gonna be a chunky update, it'll include more pieces of art in the Gallery, some nodes to other projects of mine (and possibly others), but the biggest thing I wanna get implemented is a save function which will update your save every time a Red Door is used. I know due to the nature of RNG the game can take minutes or hours, so giving people a way to walk away and come back to continue later is important in my opinion.
Tik to the Tok
I'm a grumpy old man (well, 37, but mentally far too old for modern social media stuff like Snapchat and Tiktok) but based on the advise of some lovely peeps over on Threads (check me out on Threads, it's where I'm most active!) I've begun to post Tiktoks of Spaces from inside Liminaut to promote the game :) I don't know how you get 'seen' on Tiktok, and I'll admit I don't have the time or focus to learn (I'm too busy learning Godot!) but if you're into that kinda thing feel free to follow me over there :)
Back to Work
Enough rambling from me though. A big thanks to everyone who's played Liminaut 0.1, shared the social media posts around, and raised awareness for it in general, it really means a lot :)
See you all for Update 12!
