DevLog 1 : So Far.

Hello all! Timbo here!

So this is my new project, Chumbles Bumbles. A short platformer game with no real plan. I've been making it up as I go creating tiles and sprites on the fly. As a result the games development is quite free and flowing nicely except when I get hung up on bugs!

So what do we have so far?

About 2 and a half levels! The first two levels are "done" (I may go back and alter them in time) and the third level is half finished. Between those I have 2 "Sub-Levels" as I've been calling them in files. They're just a single room with an NPC to talk too who'll give you some possibly useful info and maybe even some deep juicy lore on the world!

On top of that I have the main menu and the intro screens.

As for enemies, there are currently 4 enemies in the game. I have plans for more but I don't want enemies to just be reskins of other enemies you've already faced when possible, I'd like them to all have some kind of unique mechanic, so the variation in enemies will be very dependent on my ability to create unique systems for each one!

I've also squished a major lag issue which was plaguing level 2 of the game. It seems although my game will be using the look of the original Gameboy the GB Studio engine has some optimisation issues with the GB Mode so I'm having to run the game in GBC Mode without the colours so it runs smoother because otherwise any more than 2 actors on screen would add crippling slowdown even with wait timers placed between checks to avoid calling too many checks every frame.

So what next?

I'd like to get level 3 finished up as well as it's Sub Level but also add a simple HUD to the game to show how many Gems the player has collected (3 in each level) for anyone who'd like to try 100%'ing the game. Maybe I'll add an extra end scene for those who collect all of them! :D
