Dev Log 8: Switching It Up!

Good Afternoon All!

Today I've got a nice update to show off!

10 Down 5 To Go!

Anyone who's been following the Dev Logs will know I've never set myself a level target before now. It's always been 'the number of levels this update will be whatever I feel happy with', but with 35 levels at the release of Version 3, and knowing Version 4 will be the basic core Bubble Frog game, I wanted to get to level 15 this time to round it off to a nice healthy 50 levels. So we're currently sat at 45 levels which is exciting as hell! Luckily the new mechanic I've introduced with Green Zone has given me a lot of ideas. So what is that new Mechanic?

SWITCHES!

So the new Mechanic, as shown above is a Switch system! Admittedly due to my dumb brain forgetting how Local Variables work, I spent far too long trouble shooting a problem that was ENTIERLY of my own creation! Never the less the systems in the game now! Shown above I can set the 2 states of the switch to set different states of a Spike Block BUT in the game I've found some other handy things I can do with it involving stopping On Update scripts!

So with only 5 levels left till the games "Level Complete" then what?

SPIT & POLISH!

I plan to take this project to Kickstarter, and if I'm gonna woo people with it it's gotta look AMAZING right? For this reason post level development my plan is too;

  • Add small animations to NPC screens
Mouth moving animations and maybe blinking if I can get it to not look weird
  • Clean up Button Inputs
Currently the button you use to interact feels inconsistent sometimes (using B to forward a menu but then A for other interactions). This I want to clean up to make the game more consistent.
  • Custom Button Icons
I hear from a lot of people they can't control the game in the Itch.io page. This is because they're using A and B instead of Z and X. For this reason I wanna make the web build show keyboard controls rather than Gameboy buttons. I'd also like to add the option for the Steam version so you can pick between Xbox, Playstation, Steam Deck, Keyboard, and Nintendo control button icons :)
  • Color Blind Tests
I'd like to find some Color Blind people interested in making sure the games readable with it's current color pallets. I'm hoping due to the dark outline of important things this won't be an issue but best to check right?!
  • Multiple Endings
Don't get too excited. These will be similar to Luigi's Mansion, the graphic for OniGary will change based on what % of Onigiri you collect.

Beyond this everything is then focused on the Kickstarter stuff and Steam Stuff! We'll get to that in a future Dev Log though :)

Welp, time to wrap this up, thanks for reading!
