Dev Log 4 : And it was aaaaall Yellow (Zone)

Good morning everyone!

Feels good to be back to writing a Dev Log after day off for the update launch! So what have I got for you today? Well...

Bubble Frog Part 2 Launched!

Yup, a new update dropped that added 10 whole new levels as well as a load of QoL/Polish to make the game feel like a more professional package (when I started Bubble Frog a week ago I didn't think it would become the thing it is today!).

You can find a full list of changes HERE.

GBStudio 3.2.0!

GBStudio had an update in the last few days to 3.2.0 and it's a sexy update adding in features like foreground tiles and slops. Although I'm still toying with these it's exciting to see how I may be able to build them into Bubble Frog in the next big update! :D

They also improved the tools performance it seems which is a life saver as at the number of scenes in Bubble Frog my crappy laptop was beginning to struggle and I feared I may have had to put the future updates on hold till I had a stronger computer but things seem to be running ok again for now! :D

Yellow Time!

So with the release of Bubble Frog Part 2 I planned to take a few days off to just relax, play games, question my existence, the usual. Alas my brain knew I planned to try some new mechanics in Yellow Zone (Part 3) and got too excited so I've already begun some basic work on the new update.

What's planned for Part 3?

  • Big Fans
These will blow Bubble Frog up or down. I may be able to add horizontal ones but that is something I'm still figuring out and isn't looking too promising currently.
  • Gloopy Goo
A substance which will slow Bubble Frog's movement down.
  • New and Returning NPCs
Blue Zone got Pim and Pom (and a new NPC hidden in the Secret Level) but I'd like to have more fun with NPCs in Yellow Zone :D
  • Some number of Levels!
Just like with Blue Zone I'm not putting a number on the new levels that will be added as I feel it only hinders my work effort.
  • AND MORE!*
*That's a nice way of saying 'I got nothing else yet but I know I'll end up adding unexpected stuff

Going  Retro!

So as you may know (if you've looked at the itch page for Bubble Frog) some lovely people have shown off my game running on emulation hardware. Well Xitter user @fulvalsenGB went further and showed the game running on a modded Gameboy and Gameboy Color! :D

They are also a fellow itch member and Gameboy game creator! Check them out HERE!!!
