Dev Log 2 : Some smaller updates
Good morning everyone!
Another day another dev log!
So what have I done in the last 24 hours? Well first up I've made a good start on Blue Zone with 3 levels so far. The levels are taking longer as I get more experimental with the level design to keep things challenging and interesting.
Huh? What's this? Level 17 is hidden? Well not only is it the biggest level I've made to date, it's also the first to contain a secret! I'm not gonna be spoiling the secrets in my game so you'll have to explore Level 17 and see what you can find!
As you may have noticed with level 18, a lot more is going on than usual. As I get more confident with the mechanics I've made I'm getting more playful with how I use them including Spike Blocks that patrol an area and some mean single direction walls mwahaha.
It's not all about level design though! Based on feedback I've shrunk the hit box on Bubble Frog. I'd rather have a hit box that correctly covers his bubble but the Gameboy can only handle a single square hit box per sprite meaning there isn't a way to achieve this. As a result I'd rather give the player some surprising misses than some "what that was nowhere near me!" hits. In total Bubble Frog's hit box has been reduced by 2x2 pixels which MAY make things a tiny bit easier but I think it's a fair trade off (and I'm sure some of you will welcome the easier gameplay :P)
Itch.io Page Update
Thanks to some lovely players the games page has an update to show off how the game looks running on emulation devices! Once I get a flash cart I'd love to show people how it looks running on original hardware too, but I think this will make it more clear to people why some may want to download the .gb ROM file rather than just playing it in the browser :)
The page also got a trailer!
Finally for anyone who questions how beatable Bubble Frog Part 1 actually is, here's a picture of my own end game screen on my little Pocket Go to show it IS 100%'able, but remember there is no shame in missing a few Onigiri in the name of beating the game :)Bubble Frog
