Dev Log 1 : Part 2 Begins
Good morning lovers of Bubbles and Frogs!
So yesterday was the launch of Part 1 of Bubble Frog. It was, in my standards, a big success! Over 100 page visits, a bunch of plays and downloads, someone even paid for the free game to show their support. I had lots of encouraging messages about the game across the page comments, Threads and Twitter and even had people show me pics of the game running on their emulation devices which was super cool!
As someone VERY new to this scene as a game maker, and someone who doesn't know the first thing about promoting a game I'm super happy with how it did in the first 24 hours!
But this isn't a time to rest up!
This success has given me a huge boost to my motivation and I know myself well enough to know motivation is rare and fleeting so I have to act fast! As a result I've already begun work on Part 2 of Bubble Frog!
This will be a totally free update to the game which will add a bunch of new levels taking advantage of all the mechanics introduced in part 1.
Where Part 1 is kind of a tutorial to how the game will work, part 2 will assume you've gotten used to how everything works and challenge you some more.
The intro has already been made, and I've even knocked out Level 1 (well, level 16) where I've been testing visual changes to give the game a better sense of progress between Part 1 and 2 :)
So what's the plan for Part 2?
- More Levels (duh)
I'm not setting a number on the level goal, last thing I wanna do is stop while I'm on a roll because "I've hit my target" nor do I wanna force out a few extra levels to hit a target only to have the last few levels suck. - Continue Game
With the level count growing it'll be less and less fair to ask the player to complete it in a single sitting. Now I need to read up on if itch.io embedded games will allow for saves, that may not be an option, but I'd at least like to offer a 'continue game' option for people running the ROM file :) This shouldn't be too hard as the game is creating a save file at the start of every level anyway, so calling on that save from a 'continue' prompt should be easy! - Secrets?
Some who played Chumbles Bumbles will know I love sneaking in secrets like hidden paths or a secret level select room. I'm not sure yet, but it would be super fun to hide a hidden secret or two in the game if possible, but never at the expense of the core game (not gonna hide any Onigiri in secrets!) - Audio Option
I'm sure Bubble Frog being so vocal every time you jump drives some people nuts, so I'm gonna look into making a toggle to turn off the sound. This shouldn't be hard IN THEORY but lets see...
That's about it. Not huge goals I know but I'm being realistic about the confines of being a Gameboy Game and my own limited abilities :) Besides, if I make it too amazing what will there be for a Part 3 or Bubble Frog 2?! ;-)
Ok I'm gonna get back to work!
Thanks for reading!
